Kansas City – Nelson Akins Art Museum

Though not technically in Kansas, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art is the perfect place to begin your trip! This free art museum is not only home to amazing pieces of art history but also has the famous oversize Shuttlecocks on the grounds.

Drive one hour west on I70 and you can find the Topeka Greetings From Mural to add to your state collection!

Wamego: Wizard of Oz Museum

Just 45 minutes from Topeka, you can visit the Wizard of Oz Museum where thousands of pieces of Wizard of Oz history are on display! There is even an official death certificate from the state of Kansas certifying the death of the Wicked Witch!

Abilene:

One hour from Wamego you will come to Abilene most famous as the location of the Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum but there are also other amazing things to see and do! Check out the Heritage Center of Dickinson County where you can ride the 1901 CW Parker Carousel!

Wilson:

Drive one hour and see the world’s largest Czech Egg

Oakley:

Just 2 hours more up the road and you can visit the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center. Take a side trip of 30 minutes south and you will see one of the seven wonders of Kansas! Monument Rocks is off the beaten path through the flatland of Kansas and is worth every minute!

Goodland:

Drive back up to I-70 and travel an hour over to the small town of Goodland. This is where you can enjoy the 80 Foot Van Gogh.
