Longest Covered Bridge in Georgia

On a recent road trip, we discovered Watson Mill Bridge State Park which is the longest covered bridge in the state. The Watson Mill Bridge spans 229 feet across the South Fork River. At one time, Georgia had more than 200 covered bridges; today, there are less than 20 left.

This covered bridge is special in that you can drive or walk across the bridge. We drove through and then walked back across so we could enjoy the views from both side.

The park is an ideal spot for an afternoon picnic or a place to play in the cool river just below the bridge. When we were there on a hot day in June, there were people playing in the water, wading around the rocks and enjoying a picnic lunch.

There are hiking trails, picnic tables and lookouts around the bridge. Take your time to explore the area and enjoy the day.
