Things to Know about Shedd Aquarium
One of the highlights of any trip to Chicago is Shedd Aquarium. On day 2 of our Midwest road trip, we walked over to visit the Aquarium. When we visit a big city, we like to see as many things as possible. We all know that on a city walking tour we won’t have to worry about getting more than our 10,000 steps! Things to Know about Shedd Aquarium
We started our day in Chicago at Willis Tower then started walking toward Shedd Aquarium. But of course, we are never interested in the most direct route. We are much more interested in seeing as much of a city as we can before the end of our day! Bonus: We all hit more than 10,000 steps on our Fitbit!
We took our time and wandered down through Millenium Park. That’s where we found the Crown Fountain and of course the famous Cloud Gate Sculpture!
After leaving Millenium Park, we walked down past Lake Michigan and over to Shedd Aquarium. You can definitely walk over next to Grant Park, but it’s far prettier on the lakefront sidewalk.
Shedd Aquarium
Shedd Aquarium has over 32,000 creates from aquatic habits around the world.
Explore Shedd’s Abbott Oceanarium, where you can get face-to-face with beluga whales, dolphins, sea otters, sea lions and penguins. Polar Play Zone is a permanent exhibit where kids and their families can play, pretend and discover through hands-on activities. See the aquatic presentation, starring the dolphins, belugas and more, and don’t miss the Amphibians special exhibit.
Talk to a diver in the 90,000-gallon Caribbean Reef, take a walk through a flooded forest in Amazon Rising and watch sharks swimming overhead in Wild Reef.
Washed Ashore Art Exhibit
One of the highlights of our visit was the opportunity to see the various pieces of art on display throughout the museum. Seeing all the trash that has been fished out of the ocean to create these pieces of art is sobering.
A 1,600-pound seahorse? A 6-foot penguin? See those and more at Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, a limited-time special exhibition featuring larger-than-life sculptures of aquatic animals, created entirely from plastic beach trash.
