Green River Tailwater Recreation Area

We have driven over to Green River Lake several times in the past few years but this weekend we spent a few minutes walking around the spillway. Thanks to the recent rains in Kentucky, the water was raging and the spray high.

You can park and walk over to the spillway and enjoy the massive spray. We love waterfalls, but can’t always get out to our favorite waterfall hikes. That’s why we love finding places like this when we take a road trip.

You can walk around and enjoy the view of the spillway from all sides and even drive around to the top and look over.

There are restrooms available at the spillway as well as picnic areas and even a playground down by the lake.

A paved parking lot (with security lights) and a single lane concrete ramp suitable for small john boats, canoes and kayaks is available. Plenty of quality bank fishing access is available directly below the dam downstream to ramp. Picnic shelters, playground and restroom facilities are also present. This is the starting point of the Upper Green River Blue Water Trail.
