William Henry Harrison

Along the journey of adventuring I sometimes come across rather obscure historical landmarks.  The William Henry Harrison memorial park was one such place. Just across the river from Kentucky in North Bend, Ohio, I discovered this great little park.  This post is going to be light on words, but heavy on pictures. I hope as you journey, you too, will discover such places and share with readers what you find.

William Henry Harrison

William Henry Harrison (February 9, 1773 – April 4, 1841) was the ninth president of the United States of America. Though he died after only 31 days in office, his legacy of politics and military experience was deeply engrained in the family. His father Benjamin Harrison was a signer of the Declaration of Independence and his grandson, another Benjamin, became the 23rd president.

Though the park is small, it is wonderfully maintained and informative about the life of William Henry Harrison.  There are a few hiking trails and picnic tables overlooking the woodsy trails.  As you stand at the top of the knoll where the monument is located there is a wonderful view of the river.

On the day we visited, there were blue skies, gentle winds, birds singing, and an overall sense of serenity about the place.  I was excited to discover this small park honoring our 9th President.  This was one of those places that we discovered accidently along our journey – but well worth the hours we spent enjoying the whole experience.
