Visiting James Buchanans Birthplace
When we travel on the interstate, we are always on the lookout for those little brown signs that alert us to historical landmarks. While on a recent road trip, we saw the sign that told us we were close to the birthplace of James Buchanan. Visiting presidential birthplaces helps us learn more about our American presidents and our nations history.
Visiting James Buchanan’s Birthplace
James Buchanan’s Birthplace is located in the gap of Tuscarora Mountain about 20 minutes from I81 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania . Buchanan was the 15th president of the United States and has his birthplace memorial in a beautiful state park. A stone pyramid monument surrounded by huge conifer trees stands on the site of the original cabin where he was born.
Before visiting Buchanan’s birthplace, our kids barely knew that James Buchanan was a president of the United States. Now they know where he was born and that he was the president who preceded Abraham Lincoln.
The park is beautiful and worth the stop if you are driving in the area. This would be a great place to have a picnic or take a hike.
